ABOUT ME

I am an Assistant Professor and a primate behavioral ecologist working at the intersection of behavior, ecology, and conservation. My research focuses on understanding how environmental and human-driven pressures shape animal behavior, with a particular emphasis on tool use, movement ecology, and social systems in primates.

I completed my PhD at IISER Mohali, where I studied the evolution of tool use in Nicobar long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis umbrosus). Building on this foundation, my research has expanded to explore how anthropogenic disturbances, such as habitat fragmentation and timber poaching, affect the movement, behavior, and survival of hoolock gibbons in Northeast India.

My work is deeply interdisciplinary. I combine field research, behavioral analysis, and socio-economic perspectives to understand complex conservation challenges. I am particularly interested in uncovering how human activities reshape ecological systems and influence behavioral adaptations in primates.

Alongside my research, I actively mentor students and early-career researchers, supporting their development in field methods, analytical thinking, and scientific communication. I believe in building collaborative and inclusive research environments that not only generate knowledge but also contribute to conservation practice and capacity building.

Through my work, I aim to bridge the gap between research and real-world conservation: developing approaches that are scientifically robust, socially informed, and grounded in the realities of the landscapes and communities I work with.
